The Westfalian TW134

The Westfalian stands for unique bottlings and is not afraid to experiment. Cask 134 is subtitled "Crazy Cask Experiment". A single corn whisky - distilled from maize (corn for you US folks) - matured in an ex-Old Pulteney sherry cask. You don't often find this combination in Scotland nor in the USA.

Tasting

Nose

The first thing that comes to mind is "Herrencreme" (the delicious vanilla dessert with rum). This is accompanied by the sweet scent of grape and nut chocolate with a good portion of caramel. Behind this we find the clear, cereal-like scent of corn and oats.

Palate

On the tip of the tongue, this Westfalian is a real sugar bomb. We taste honey, cream toffee and butter biscuits. Accompanied by a wonderful viscosity and a surprising dryness. On the palate, chocolate and nut flavours unfold.

Finish

This single corn lingers surprisingly long. An interesting spiciness is left on the palate. Although there are no pronounced oak notes, the bitter-sweet blend of maize and chocolate persists.

Verdicts

Marcel

The Westfalian TW134 is a true character, delivering a sweet sugar bomb and rich chocolate notes that make it a real joy – this isn’t your run-of-the-mill whisky, but a wild experiment that divides opinions and excites. Those who embrace the unusual corn and sherry cask combination will experience pure drinking pleasure with a wink.

Sascha

A technically impressive Single Corn whisky that scores with a fine balance between sweetness, viscosity, and a surprising dryness. The complex interplay of corn aromas and sherry cask influences shows a boldness in innovation, though the overall profile remains somewhat distinctive and may not suit every palate.

What it is worth

No auction record for this distillery, so we cannot tell you what this bottle is worth. We would rather say that than guess.
