The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Years

The Singleton of Dufftown 12 year is one of the few bottlings with an age statement of more than 10 years that can be purchased for under 30€. As part of the Classic Malts Selection, it becomes even more interesting when viewed in the context of the full lineup. It is part of the core range (12, 15 and 18 years) of the Dufftown distillery. The three distilleries Dufftown, Glen Ord, and Glendullan produce whiskies under the label The Singleton. While The Singleton of Glen Ord is intended for the Asian market, The Singleton of Glendullan targets the North American market and The Singleton of Dufftown belongs to the European market.

Tasting

Nose

As expected, the "Luscious Nectar" smells malty-sweet, fruity, slightly honeyed perhaps and very soft. Other aromas we detect are nuts and latte, as well as green apple. Really pleasant.

Palate

Thin, delicate and oily, the whisky floats in the mouth and tingles a little on the tongue. The fruitiness is pronounced here, as well. The apple in particular stands out. Orange toffee, roasted nuts and brown sugar round off the less complex but quaffable single malt. Every now and then, the alcohol bites a little, despite the low 40% abv.

Finish

The finish is rather short and combines sweet cane sugar syrup with slightly more dominant oaky bitterness.

Verdicts

Marcel

The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Years is a relaxed companion for summer evenings and beginners who don’t want any fuss. Its subtle sweetness and soft mouthfeel simply invite you to enjoy — an easy sipper that even perks up with a small fruit garnish. Not spectacular, but friendly and straightforward.

Sascha

A solid Speyside whisky with balanced fruitiness and gentle maltiness, though it falls a bit short in complexity and finish length. The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Years impresses with its clear structure and pleasant balance, but remains a rather light representative of its category without much depth. Recommended for beginners seeking an accessible and harmonious whisky.
