Tasting

Nose

The scenery: A campfire on a fresh, lush and dewy meadow actually describes the nose quite well. A hint of citrus aromas and occasionally a bit of vanilla can still be found in the background.

Palate

The punch: Slightly peppery-spicy, but without a salty maritime quality, Bud Spencer opens with the first punch. The second fist follows sweetly with red berries, caramel sweetness, and typical red wine flavours.

Finish

The end: The knockout punch is dry, spicy and yet fruity at the same time, landing the opponents next to the campfire again.

Verdicts

Marcel

A smoky single malt that remains pleasantly rounded and easy-drinking despite its NAS status – the combination of smoke and red wine cask simply makes for a fun experience. Does the connection to Bud Spencer really stand out? More of a nice gimmick, but it doesn’t detract from the whisky itself. For fans looking for uncomplicated drinking enjoyment with a wink, this is a well-rounded choice.

Sascha

Structurally, the St. Kilian Bud Spencer Batch 02 shows a solid balance between smoky notes and the fruity complexity of the red wine cask, even though the nose overall feels somewhat one-dimensional. The finish impresses with dry spice and a fruity aftertaste, but falls a bit short in depth. Overall, a well-balanced German single malt that comes across surprisingly harmonious for a NAS.
