Tasting

Nose

The first sniff reveals a seductive bouquet of tropical fruits that immediately appeals to the nose. Pineapple dominates the fruity note, accompanied by delicate honey notes and a hint of malt, which lend depth to the flavour. Nuances of peach and a subtle papaya also emerge, while a gentle oak note increases the complexity. A slight nutty accent, similar to a subtle pecan nut, resonates in the background. The overall flavour remains soft and pleasantly balanced thanks to a gentle floral note.

Palate

The floral and fruity character continues on the palate, albeit in a much softer form than the intense aroma. The texture is creamy and delicate and glides smoothly over the palate, but remains less expressive in its fullness. Notes of honey and tropical pineapple can be found again, accompanied by a hint of fruity sweetness reminiscent of peach iced tea. Overall, the flavour remains elegant and light - just like many whiskies from the Nikka distillery, which are often praised for their ‘maximum drinkability’.

Finish

The finish is short and pleasant, with a light floral aftertaste that combines with a gentle spiciness. It remains subtle and blends into the delicate profile of the whisky without being particularly lingering.

Verdicts

Marcel

A gentle pleasure with a charming yet restrained aromatic profile – perfect for fans of elegant, light drams who don’t need an overpowering character. Still, the high price remains a slight stumbling block, as the delicate nuances demand patience and an open mind. Those willing to embrace it will find a whisky that convinces with its subtle beauty.

Sascha

The Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast Edition 2022 presents a balanced and complex interplay of aromas, reflecting the innovative use of yeast and extended fermentation. Despite its finely detailed structure, the aroma comes across as comparatively subtle on the palate, which slightly diminishes the overall impression and invites a critical look at the price. For connoisseurs who appreciate technical sophistication and subtle balance, this whisky still offers interesting facets.
