Sild Flören (2018/2023) Single Cask 5 Years

Sild Flören is distilled in the renowned Lantenhammer distillery in Bavaria and then stored under very special conditions on the North Sea island of Sylt. Rumour has it that part of the maturation process even took place on ships, which gives this whisky a touch of adventure and maritime flair. With its 50.10 % vol. it has plenty of strength without being overpowering.

Tasting

Nose

As soon as you open the bottle, you are greeted by an intense aroma. Fruity-sweet with a slightly artificial note reminiscent of cherry lollipops, combined with a hint of sultanas and nutty flavours. This is joined by a warm spiciness of slightly burnt wood, which immediately arouses the nose's curiosity.

Palate

The first sip confirms that this whisky is no ordinary representative. The flavour is fruity and berry, with a slightly bitter undertone of tobacco and leather. Walnut notes provide a pleasant depth that is not too heavy, but not too light either. The 50.10 % vol. is noticeable but well integrated - a whisky that shows character without setting the throat on fire.

Finish

In the finish, the Sild Flören shows its spicy, chocolaty side. The fruity notes recede into the background, replaced by fresh tobacco leaves, a pleasant bitterness and a hint of spice.

Verdicts

Marcel

A whisky that really lifts the spirits with its powerful 50.1% ABV and maritime maturation on Sylt. Fruity, nutty, and with a surprisingly spicy finish, the Sild Flören brings fun to the glass – perfect for those who love character without being overwhelmed.

Sascha

The Sild Flören Single Cask 5 Years strikes a successful balance between fruity notes and spicy depth, enhanced by its maritime aging. Despite its impressive alcohol strength, the structure remains harmonious and the finish well-balanced, making it an intriguing example of experimental German whiskies.
