Tasting
Nose
The blend opens with wild berries and a handful of dates. These are joined by intense notes of dried fruit and clove. Last but not least - who would have thought it - a surge of fluffy dark chocolate mousse. On a second sniff, we detect espresso shake from the filter holder, citrus aroma and some fresh tobacco.
Palate
Exceedingly powerful and sweet with very balanced dried fruit flavours, the Scallywag, which lies somewhere between Sehrrybombe and chocolate cake, shows its prowess. A seamless continuation of the nose follows in the mouth.
Finish
With spicy oak, the blended malt finishes sweetly fruity.
Verdicts
Marcel
With the Scallywag Chocolate Edition 2023, you don’t just get a whisky, but a small taste experience full of chocolate and dried fruits – perfect for anyone who loves bold and sweet flavors. However, if you’re just starting out with whisky, you might want to wait a little longer, as this dram is more of a treat for seasoned connoisseurs.
Sascha
The Scallywag Chocolate Edition impresses with its harmonious balance between intense sherry notes and chocolaty sweetness, making it a solid representative of Speyside blends. Technically well-balanced, it does lack a bit of complexity in places to elevate it beyond very good.
