Tasting

Nose

The first impression is unconventional: there is a hint of musty shoebox and sweaty feet - unusual, but not unpleasant. After a few moments, the bouquet opens up: damp moss, a fresh sea breeze and delicate chalk notes are reminiscent of a stormy coast. The vanilla in the background provides a gentle rounding off and combines the rough Islay terrain with a subtle sweetness.

Palate

On the tongue, the Bowmore shows its full strength. A strong ash note dominates at first, before an almost sugary sweetness asserts itself - surprising and fascinating at the same time. Fresh vanilla and pear play with the oily mouthfeel and contribute to the pleasant balance. The smoke always remains present, but without masking the other flavours.

Finish

Long, voluminous and warming. The oak note typical of many Islay whiskies is held back here, instead the impression of light-coloured fruit and sugar remains. Despite its strength, the finish is comparatively fresh and light.

Verdicts

Marcel

A smoky adventure with plenty of punch and a sweet playfulness – you can practically feel the stormy Islay coast. This isn’t a mainstream whisky, but a characterful dram full of edges and quirks that excites and leaves you wanting more.

Sascha

Technically well-balanced between powerful smoke and surprising sweetness, the Bowmore 2013/2024 offers a structured complexity with a full-bodied finish. A successful example of an intense yet harmonious Islay whisky with a clearly defined profile.
