Beauchamp Whisky Pur Malt

Of course we also buy whisky on holiday. On our last holiday in France, a small corner wine shop recommended the Beauchamp Whisky Pur Malt. The whisky comes from the Bercloux Distillery and shows that France has more to offer than just wine and cognac. But how does this French exotic perform in the glass?

Tasting

Nose

The dominant flavour here is an intense orange note that really explodes. The sweetness of caramel and brown sugar harmonises perfectly with a hint of honey. But it's not just the sweetness that stands out - a slight bitterness and an underlying malty sweetness give the fragrance depth. Also surprising is a subtle pear note, reminiscent of the distillery's characteristics, as well as a hint of white wine, which blends delicately into the overall flavour.

Palate

The first taste impression confirms the promise of the nose: sweetness is the central element. Sweets, sugar and once again the omnipresent orange dominate the flavour. It is interesting how a light grape note, reminiscent of white wine, blends into the sweet flavours. You could almost believe that the whisky is unnaturally sweet - that's how intense this flavour experience is.

Finish

The whisky remains true to its line in the finish. The orange peel is even more prominent here and is accompanied by a slight bitterness. The pear note also reappears and is complemented by a subtle oak note. Overall, the finish is harmonious, but here too it is clear that the whisky could still do with some ageing.

Verdicts

Marcel

A whisky that’s great fun with its intense orange sweetness and playful character – almost like a sweet little holiday in a bottle. Sure, it might be a bit too sweet for everyday drinking, but anyone looking for something different should definitely give the Beauchamp Pur Malt a chance.

Sascha

The Beauchamp Whisky Pur Malt displays a remarkable balance between intense sweetness and subtle bitterness, which, despite its youth, feels well-structured. An interesting French malt that, with its clear aromatic profile and harmonious finish, certainly shows potential for further maturation.

What it is worth

No auction record for this distillery, so we cannot tell you what this bottle is worth. We would rather say that than guess.
